DUBAI — As the city embraces its annual “30 × 30 Fitness Challenge,” many participants attribute their energy boost to consistent workouts. Yet nutrition specialists emphasize that the real secret to sustainable fitness lies not in exercise routines but in daily eating habits, especially when it comes to bold nutrition choices and a balanced diet.

Experts say that as much as 80% of fitness results come from diet rather than time spent in the gym. A balanced meal, they argue, often has a stronger impact on overall health and body composition than adding another hour on the treadmill. This aligns with the growing focus on healthy lifestyle habits as a foundation for long-term wellness.

One of the most effective daily habits starts with breakfast. Nutritionists recommend beginning the morning with a combination of protein, healthy fats and whole-grain carbohydrates — a strategy linked to improved healthy weight management and reduced cravings throughout the day.

Hydration also plays a central role. Adding a small pinch of sea salt or Himalayan salt to drinking water can help replenish electrolytes lost through sweat, a simple method that supports optimal hydration and improved energy levels.

Maintaining a healthy gut is another key factor. Including foods rich in prebiotic fibers like oats, garlic, asparagus and bananas — along with fermented foods such as yogurt, kefir or kimchi — strengthens digestion and supports the immune system, contributing to better gut health and overall well-being.

Instead of chasing intense workout trends or extreme diets, experts encourage focusing on sustainable nutrition habits. Balanced meals, proper hydration and mindful eating — paired with moderate exercise — can deliver long-lasting results that extend far beyond the excitement of a seasonal fitness challenge.
