No matter how much you look for tips to reduce your electricity consumption, certain devices continue to eat up a large part of your budget. And one of them, increasingly popular, can increase the bill by almost 12%. It is better to know this before equipping yourself or adapting its use if you already have it.

Winter is approaching, temperatures are dropping and electricity bills are soaring. You have optimized your heating. You turn off the lights. And yet, despite these efforts, certain devices continue to inflate the bill. Identifying these “big consumers” then becomes essential if you want to regain control of your spending.

The device in question has it all: it washes, it dries, it saves space. It is precisely this mix of practicality and versatility that is attracting more and more households. But behind this comfort, it hides a high energy cost. Experts consider that it represents around 12% of the usual energy bill, the most energy-intensive for an average household. The high consumption of water and electricity required to heat it, combined with long cycles, makes this device particularly expensive. You recognized it: the washer-dryer.

Washing already requires a significant amount of energy, especially if you use hot water. But it is especially the drying which increases the bill: the device must heat the air and evaporate the humidity, which requires significant power. Result: up to 425 kWh per year, or around 123 euros. An amount that should be kept in mind before investing.

However, if you already own this device, all is not lost. You can reduce its impact without sacrificing your comfort. Favor low temperature cycles, because for everyday laundry, cold water is more than enough, especially with a suitable detergent. Limit the use of drying: when possible, let your clothes dry in the open air. If you start the drying function, wait for a full charge: a half load consumes almost as much as a full one. Finally, think about maintenance, because a clogged filter or a dirty drum forces the device to work longer. Regular cleaning helps reduce drying times and lower your bill.

Before equipping yourself, it is better to know these points. And if your machine is already at home, a few simple actions are enough to calm its consumption.
