Between gifts, new decor and Christmas meals, the end of the year often causes the budget to explode. However, you do your best to reduce the bill: in store, you compare prices carefully, while remaining on the lookout for the slightest promotion. Despite all your efforts, one unavoidable expense weighs heavily on your budget: drinks. There is no question of serving piquette on New Year’s Eve: you are aiming for vintage wines, which are necessarily more expensive than ordinary wines. You particularly dread buying champagne. Difficult to find a good bottle for less than 20 euros. So often, you fall back on crémant. Rest assured, we have found an ideal sparkling wine for an aperitif: sweet and fruity, it is sold from 5 euros in all supermarkets!

Even though it is perfect for small budgets, this wine in no way compromises on quality. It even benefits from a controlled designation of origin (AOP), a label guaranteeing know-how specific to a specific geographical area. In this case, it is Diois, a wine region belonging to the Rhône valley vineyard and located in the Drôme department. This wine is produced there in an absolutely unique way, from a low acidity grape variety, also used in most white Côtes-du-Rhône.

His nickname? The Clairette de Die of course! This sparkling wine is distinguished by its floral and fruity aromas, of white peach, rose or even lychee. With its fairly low alcohol content, at 7-8% vol, it represents an excellent alternative to champagne and crémant. On the shelves, you will have the choice between two different types of clarets. The “clairette de Die ancestral method”, which represents 95% of national production, is composed of small-grained white muscat, sometimes supplemented with white clairette and pink clairette. The “clairette de Die brut” is composed exclusively of white clairette.

In all supermarket chains, you will easily find bottles of Clairette, particularly from Maison Jaillance, the market leader. Price level, count between 5 and 12 euros per bottle, depending on the brand. Served chilled (between 6°C and 8°C), it will make your guests sparkle as an aperitif and at the end of the meal, when it’s time for something sweet.
